Flying problems 11

780 $

This painting was created in 2023. This year I was looking for a balance between life and desire while going out, and the work turned into lively small-size paper creations.

The "Problems of Flying" series was painted in my free time at work this year. After sweating profusely every day, cherish the remaining time to fly —— choose what to eat tonight, what speed and posture to walk on the road, and count the days to meet friends and lovers.
The problem of flying is the problem of freedom, but freedom is an abstract word that exists in the imagination, while flying is a concrete problem in practice——how to take off, which direction the wind is coming from, which sky it is in, how long you have enough physical strength to fly, constant adjustments attitude and when to land.

Creative themes and style |   My works revolve around the creative concept of  "The land of humanity, People on the land". The people in the painting are people in nature, and the lines, shapes, and colors are close to nature. The nature in the painting is nature in the eyes of humans, existing in interaction with humans.I don’t pursue a series of works with a fixed and continuous style. I hope that the style of the pictures will synchronize with the changes in my life and always remain oscillating. The performance of the work must be in sync with the development of one's own life in order to be Sincere and powerful. Ideas are later.

Artwork Interpretation

1. Narrative and Composition
This work, The Problem of Flying, constructs a wonderful world with abstract forms. In the picture, irregular color blocks and lines interweave, seemingly interpreting the disorder and reverie of “flying.”In terms of composition, the elements are distributed freely yet imply balance. Shapes of different sizes and forms echo each other, expanding the spatial hierarchy of the picture and guiding the viewer to break free from the real-world framework, entering the thinking field created by the artist.

2. Use of Color
The use of color is bold and harmonious. The main color block dominated by blue conveys profundity and tranquility, while bright colors such as red and yellow are dotted like vital elements, breaking the dullness and endowing the picture with agility. The painting style tends toward Abstract Expressionism. It abandons concrete depiction and, through the blending of colors and the wandering of lines, releases the diverse perceptions of “flying” from the heart—allowing art to return to the pure expression of emotion and spirit.

3. Emotional Expression
The emotional expression is implicit yet powerful. Those seemingly random forms embody curiosity and the exploration of the unknown. They transform “problems” into artistic inquiries, conveying optimism and the courage to break through conventions while embracing uncertainty. In terms of similar artists, this work shares qualities with Arshile Gorky’s abstract lyricism. Both employ free brushstrokes and subjective colors to explore inner experiences. However, this work carries a more personalized innocence and integrates daily philosophical reflections.By borrowing the theme of “the problem of flying,” it dissolves life’s confusions into the poetry of art, awakening the viewer’s new perception of the world and inspiring resonance within the abstract context.

Why does the composition rely on the contrast between deep blue and ochre red?

The deep blue creates a sense of cold, vast spatial depth, while the ochre red flickers like burning organic matter. Their tension—between coolness and heat—symbolizes the conflict of reason and passion within the act of flight.

What do the curved lines and droplet-like forms signify?

The curved lines resemble air currents or streams of energy, while the droplet-like shapes appear suspended, suggesting an unstable yet vital state of movement. They reinforce the idea of flight as an experience filled with fluidity, unpredictability, and life force.

How should the white specks across the blue surface be understood?

These white traces evoke raindrops or points of light, adding both transparency and motion to the blue mass. They may also allude to the shifting weather of flight—rain, wind, and light intertwined—enhancing the painting’s dynamic rhythm.

What is the work’s value in the context of abstract expressionist painting?

As an exploration of organic abstract form, the painting captures the interplay of natural forces and inner states of spirit, moving beyond representational narrative. Its striking color contrast and unique formal language give it a distinctive presence in contemporary abstract art collections, making it well-suited for modern art exhibitions or private holdings focused on abstraction.

What kind of viewers might resonate most with this work?

The painting’s bold chromatic tension and irregular forms appeal to those drawn to experimental and non-figurative art. It is particularly effective in modern design spaces, contemporary galleries, or collectors’ studios, where it can act as a catalyst for reflection and creativity.
