There are scriptures on the sea 5

78 x 108 cm2390 $

This painting was created in 2022. This year, the painting style changed sharply, from the usual low and harmonious gray colors to conflicting bright colors. At the same time, it raised a big question mark about life.

Copying scriptures, chanting scriptures, and burning scriptures. This is also one of the ways I love this world. If you are willing to understand it, you will find that this is one of the most effective ways of "love".

Creative themes and style |   My works revolve around the creative concept of  "The land of humanity, People on the land". The people in the painting are people in nature, and the lines, shapes, and colors are close to nature. The nature in the painting is nature in the eyes of humans, existing in interaction with humans.I don’t pursue a series of works with a fixed and continuous style. I hope that the style of the pictures will synchronize with the changes in my life and always remain oscillating. The performance of the work must be in sync with the development of one's own life in order to be Sincere and powerful. Ideas are later.

Artwork Interpretation

Ashes outlines a profound spiritual field with a unique visual form. At the center of the painting, the blue - purple - gray intertwined "folded body" is the core. Its shape is like a memory wrinkled by time, or like the texture of naturally weathered rocks. The irregular rough edges at the border break the regularity of a conventional canvas, like the "original outline" remaining from ashes, enhancing the raw texture of the theme.

In terms of composition, the "folded body" occupies the center of the painting, drawing the viewer’s eye with asymmetric extension. The black background, like an endless void, both lifts and traps the subject, creating a "focus - loss" tension: viewers are attracted by the color folds, yet fall into contemplation due to the emptiness of the background, forming a dual interaction of vision and spirit.

Color is a subtle emotional code: Dominated by cool blue - purple tones, it contains warm traces of gray and brown, like the residual heat left after ashes cool. The variation in paint thickness makes dark areas seem like deep shadows, and light - colored folds like translucent cracks. Against the black background, each layer of color becomes an emotional fold — the interweaving of cold and warm is a dialogue between disappearance and retention.

The painting style falls into the category of abstract expressionism. Abandoning realistic depiction, it conveys inner spirit through form and color. The distortion of the "folded body" is not chaos, but a natural flow of emotion. Each undulation corresponds to the emotional pulse during creation, transforming the physical form of "ashes" into an abstract symbol of spirit.

Emotions are hidden in color layers: Under the calmness of blue - purple, the warm traces of gray - brown are sparks of memory, and the black background is the silence of disappearance. The whole conveys dialectical optimism — Ashes are the stillness after burning, yet also the foreshadowing of rebirth. In those color folds, lies the philosophical thought of the life cycle of "destruction - rebirth".

It evokes the abstract artistic conception of Zao Wou - Ki, yet Ashes emphasizes material texture and rawness more. It also echoes Anselm Kiefer’s "ruin aesthetics", but strips away historical heaviness, focusing on the rebirth of individual spirit from ashes. Using specific color folds and rough edge forms, it transforms abstract philosophy into a touchable visual experience, telling viewers: Ashes are not an end, but a hibernation of life energy. In the dialogue between the dark background and color folds, one can see the eternal cycle of destruction and rebirth — this is precisely the unique way art decodes the essence of life.

Why do the ash forms appear in filament-like and curling trajectories?

The lines in the composition are not accidental but a visual rendering of the residual energy of burned scripture. The filament-like and curling traces give the ashes a rhythm reminiscent of calligraphic strokes, echoing the textual quality of scripture while conveying the spiritual imprint of disappearance.

Why does this work, unlike earlier pieces in the series, completely dissolve the golden sea background?

Here, the artist deliberately lets the sea recede, leaving only a dark void that highlights the ashes as the sole remnants of memory. This minimalist backdrop makes the ashes appear more solitary and pure, emphasizing a profound silence that follows destruction.

What role do the cool blues and faint purples within the ashes play visually?

These cooler tones lend the work a deep, atmospheric quality, making the ashes hover ambiguously between solid and vapor-like states. This uncertainty strengthens the metaphor of thought fading into nothingness, while adding layered depth to the viewing experience.

How is the value of this piece reflected in the context of art collecting?

As the concluding work of the series, it naturally carries the “end-point value” within the overall collection chain. For collectors drawn to contemporary ink and abstract painting , this piece represents both a condensed spiritual core of the series and, through its rarity, an independent academic and market significance.

What type of space is best suited for displaying this artwork?

The black background and drifting ash forms make it ideal for quiet, contemplative spaces such as a contemporary art gallery, a private study, or a meditation room. When paired with minimalist lighting, its cool tones and curling textures create a unique sense of introspection, making it highly suitable for art-level space display .
