Miss Lin

This painting was created in 2021. I spent half of this year teaching painting and the rest of the time traveling alone. There are less paintings and more poetry creation. Most of the feelings about the works come from what I saw during my travels.

Creative themes and style |   My works revolve around the creative concept of  "The land of humanity, People on the land". The people in the painting are people in nature, and the lines, shapes, and colors are close to nature. The nature in the painting is nature in the eyes of humans, existing in interaction with humans.I don’t pursue a series of works with a fixed and continuous style. I hope that the style of the pictures will synchronize with the changes in my life and always remain oscillating. The performance of the work must be in sync with the development of one's own life in order to be Sincere and powerful. Ideas are later.

Artwork Interpretation

“Miss Qilin” centers on the figure. In terms of the content, the figure’s posture is natural. The action of raising the hand to adjust the hair conveys a moment of life - like quality. The loose white shirt and the wrinkled lower garment outline the daily state through details. In terms of composition, it focuses on the figure, with the background weakened, creating a visual effect of prominent subject.

The figure occupies the main space of the picture, and the lines of the stretched limbs guide the line of sight. In terms of color application, the warm tones such as yellow and pink in the background are hazy and blended, echoing the light color of the figure’s white shirt and the soft tone of the lower garment, creating a warm and moist atmosphere. The color transition is natural, weakening the strong contrast. The painting style tends to be a fusion of freehand brushwork and realism. It not only depicts the figure’s facial expression and clothing texture with delicate brushstrokes but also handles the background with loose color treatment, making the picture have both a sense of reality and artistic refinement.

The emotional expression is implicit. Through the figure’s casual action and soft tones, it conveys a quiet and indifferent mood, as if capturing a moment of leisure in life. In terms of similar artists, it has something in common with He Duoling’s works. Both are good at exploring the inner emotions of figures with lyrical colors and simple compositions. However, in the application of warm tones, this work is more unique in creating an atmosphere. With a seemingly daily picture, it shows the capture of the figure’s mental state and life moments, telling the poetry in the ordinary with the language of painting. Let the viewers experience a quiet emotional flow in the integration of the figure’s posture and colors. It is an artistic presentation of individual existence and life slices.

Why was a half-length portrait chosen as the composition?

The half-length format preserves the sense of bodily presence while directing focus to the face and gestures. This compositional choice allows the subject’s character and psychological state to be conveyed more directly.

Why is the clothing so casual?

The loose white shirt and high-waisted trousers are not meant to emphasize luxury, but rather a natural and relaxed everyday attire. Such simplicity highlights the presence of the figure itself instead of external ornamentation.

Why is the background painted in mottled gold and gray-green?

The background is not a literal setting but an abstract layering of colors. The warmth of gold contrasts with the cool restraint of gray-green, creating an ambiguous spatial atmosphere—like the sediment of time, or the echo of memory.

What is the meaning of her gesture?

With one hand adjusting strands of hair lifted by the wind, the pose captures a subtle, fleeting moment. It implies the presence of wind, introduces movement into the scene, and reflects the subject’s casual spontaneity.

Why is the face rendered with more detail, while the body and background remain looser?

This differentiation of brushwork emphasizes the focal point of viewing. The face, as the outlet of spirit, is depicted with clarity, while the looser treatment of the body and background builds a hazy, atmospheric context that frames the figure.

What kind of emotion does the work convey?

It balances tenderness with a hint of distance. The figure stands in light and wind, meeting the viewer’s gaze directly, yet maintaining a subtle sense of detachment.
