Careful Architecture of City Love4

60 x 80 cm2380 $

This painting was created in 2021. I spent half of this year teaching painting and the rest of the time traveling alone. There are less paintings and more poetry creation. Most of the feelings about the works come from what I saw during my travels.

As I experienced the differences in my friends' lives, I also experienced the love they each built on their city lives.

Creative themes and style |   My works revolve around the creative concept of  "The land of humanity, People on the land". The people in the painting are people in nature, and the lines, shapes, and colors are close to nature. The nature in the painting is nature in the eyes of humans, existing in interaction with humans.I don’t pursue a series of works with a fixed and continuous style. I hope that the style of the pictures will synchronize with the changes in my life and always remain oscillating. The performance of the work must be in sync with the development of one's own life in order to be Sincere and powerful. Ideas are later.

In the painting, the figure stands sideways, with naturally falling curly long hair, serving as concrete symbols of tenderness. The color changes in the hair (interweaving of dark brown, gray - black, and shimmering golden brown) simulate the flow of light and shadow on the hair, endowing the static portrait with dynamic vividness. The color blending on the face (pink - white skin tone with slightly red cheeks and lips) precisely captures the delicate texture of the skin, and the subtle expressions between the eyebrows and eyes convey implicit emotional tension.

In terms of composition, the figure occupies a position slightly to the right of the center of the painting. The blank space on the left and the figure on the right form a spatial dialogue. The pink - purple tone of the background acts like a hazy emotional filter, creating a soft atmosphere for the figure. This layout, while focusing on the figure, endows the painting with a sense of breath, making the portrait not just about “likeness” but also about the integration of “spirit” and “atmosphere”, conveying a quiet sense of loneliness.

Color is a thermometer of emotions: The dominant pink - purple tone of the background, like the soft halo of a city at dusk, conveys an ambiguous and tranquil atmosphere; the light white of the figure’s clothing and the dotted orange flowers, like the fresh breath of spring, balance the rich tone of the background, creating a visual experience of “transparency within softness”. The handling of paint thickness (thin application on the face for delicacy, thick application on the hair for three - dimensionality) enhances the layers and textures of colors, making each stroke of paint a carrier of emotion.

The painting style is a fusion of realism and impressionism. It retains realism’s precise capture of the figure’s form and expression (such as the subtle facial expressions and the curly shape of the hair) while using the impressionistic color blending and loose brushstrokes (such as the pink - purple mixing in the background and the soft transition of the clothing) to convey emotions. The free wandering of brushstrokes (such as the dark color mixing in the hair) is not a rigid replication of reality but an externalization of emotions, giving “the love of the city” a touchable temperature.

Emotions hide in colors and brushstrokes: The softness of pink - purple is the ambiguous atmosphere of the city, the freshness of the light white clothing is the pure heart of the individual, and the flow of the hair and the expressions of the eyebrows and eyes convey “the lonely yet longing - for - connection emotions in the city” — In the urban context of “cautiously building”, love needs to be carefully guarded in the complex environment while longing to find resonance in the soft atmosphere. This contradictory yet harmonious emotion naturally emerges in the collision of colors and interweaving of brushstrokes.

It evokes Pierre - Auguste Renoir’s poetic handling of light, shadow, and color, yet this painting has more of the lonely undertone of modern cities; it also resembles Nicolai Fechin’s deep exploration of the human spirit but is more in line with the emotional expression of contemporary urbanites. Using specific details of the hair and color blending on the face, it transforms the emotional dilemmas of urban individuals into perceptible visual language, telling viewers: The love of the city lies in the tug - of - war between the individual and the environment, reality and ideal. When brushstrokes outline the curliness of the hair and colors render the softness of the background, the caution of “cautiously building” and the longing for “the love of the city” intertwine on the canvas, becoming a vivid mirror of the emotions of modern urbanites. Every gaze allows one to feel the delicate texture of urban life and the soft heart of the individual.
